MY CORNER BUTCHER HISTORY

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, our shop is in a warehouse which was constructed between 1918 and 1923, known as the G. W. Parson and Son building. This company occupied the structure to store cotton until the 1930's when D.M. Jones, a local hardware merchant, inventoried their supplies there. In 1948, an auto repair business operated in the structure, and the next year, a Studebaker dealership moved in and remained in that location until 1955. This building was in an industrial part of the city and was one block from the rail yard. During this time, Elizabeth City was bustling following the World War. Businesses flourished.

Today, access to the shop is at the rear of the building on 508 North Poindexter Street, and this area has an industrial appearance. The front of the building at 509 North Water Street is distinguished by three segmental-arched lintel windows and two doorways.

When entering the shop, you will see that the walls are brick, and the ceiling is supported by original wooden trusses with metal bracing. Come and visit.

Office Entrance: 509 North Water Street

About our Elizabeth City Butcher Shop

Our shop specializes in featuring higher quality products beginning with our Copper creek angus beef and Midwest pork. We introduced these programs to our readers in our Welcome to My Corner Butcher section. For those neighbors of ours who prefer to purchase an all-natural product, we have all-natural beef, pork, poultry and specialty meats such as bison, elk and rabbit to offer to them. When purchasing all natural meats, keep in mind that there are different standards used to describe all-natural, and we can help you to understand these. Not all-natural beef is graded, and this can affect the texture and eating enjoyment. The shop accepts custom orders from you. Our butchers switch out products daily in our meat case in the shop, so if you do not see what you want, ask us, and if you shop virtually in this site and cannot find what you want, send us a message by using the Ask a Butcher tab or call us at (252) 335-2254. Our staff is trained to answer your questions.

For those who do not consume meat, you will be interested in our seafood, most of which is sourced locally. The shop features all-natural shrimp, catfish, entrees and value-added items all caught and produced locally.

Reading the brand pages on this site, you will find that we mostly stock products from around the State, most of which are small batch. These items are generally healthier to consume because they have fewer ingredients and preservatives. You will find most of them on the site.

There are so many exciting items in the shop and on this site, we cannot write about all of them. We offer natural cheeses from cheddars, goat, cow, mozzarella and burrata, all made in the State mostly from small family-owned businesses.

You will discover all-natural snacks, teas coffees, non-gluten baked goods, sauces, baking mixes, jellies and rice, all from the Tar Heel State. Our Moravian bakery in Winston Salem supplies us with chicken pies and an assortment of goods, and an Italian deli in Charlotte is our entrée supplier and producer of pastas and readymade pizzas.

Those visiting the shop can shop our deli for all-natural meats. These are antibiotic and hormone free, and the animals were humanely raised on a vegetarian diet. The beef items are single cut, hand rubbed and open-roasted for us. These meats taste better, are healthier to consume and not injected or colored, which is what most of our readers are accustomed to purchasing at most retailers. Our salami items are processed using local pork raised using the same standards as beef.

Stop by and take a tour and discover these products for yourself using our "Walk Around the Shop Guide." You are our neighbors, and you are always welcome.
